Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh reviews the functioning of Healthcare Management in Delhi Govt hospitals*

New Delhi, March 6, 25. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Hon’ble Health Minister, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh reviewed the functioning of healthcare management in Government hospitals of the national capital at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by the medical superintendents of all government hospitals in Delhi, along with senior officials from the Public Works, Food Safety, Health, and Family Welfare Departments.
During the meeting, the Hon’ble Health Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of healthcare services in Delhi, stating that the previous government had severely worsened the primary health services of the city. He further issued several directives aimed at reforming the healthcare system and improving its efficiency and accessibility.
As part of a broader initiative to promote Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and strengthen Jan Aushadhi Centers, the Hon’ble Minister instructed that local purchasing of medicines be avoided unless absolutely necessary. He asked officials to submit a detailed report on requirement of medicines in govt hospitals.
In addition, the Hon’ble Health Minister announced that the National Ayush Mission will be implemented in Delhi to promote traditional medicine alongside allopathic treatments. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision to ensure a holistic approach to healthcare in the national capital.
The Hon’ble Minister emphasized that there should be no compromise in the treatment of economically weaker section (EWS) patients. In this regard, he instructed the health department to strictly adhere to government-issued guidelines to ensure all necessary medical care is provided to EWS individuals.
The ongoing construction of new hospitals at Jwalapur, Madipur, Hastsal, and Sirsapur was reviewed, with the Hon’ble Minister expressing concern over the slow pace of progress. Hon’ble Minister instructed the health department to obtain all details about safety standards being followed during the construction process from the Public Works Department (PWD).
Additionally, he requested a report on the financial losses incurred by the previous government due to delays in these projects, urging swift action to complete them. “Our government hospitals should be at par with private ones,” Dr. Singh remarked, emphasizing that any negligence in the delivery of healthcare services would not be tolerated.
The Hon’ble Minister further instructed that all vacant paramedical staff positions in hospitals and departments be filled on priority basis. He also instructed that no medical superintendent would hold dual charges in any government hospital. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of installing CCTV cameras in all hospitals for better security and transparency. “I will be carrying out surprise inspections of all hospitals,” he said.
In a significant move to improve dental health accessibility, Dr. Singh announced that 10 mobile dental vans will be stationed in rural and distant parts of Delhi as part of the initial phase of the program. Over time, this initiative will be expanded to cover the entire city, ensuring dental care reaches every corner of Delhi.
The Hon’ble Minister instructed the senior officials of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to ensure that all mandatory guidelines are strictly adhered to before registering nursing homes or private health centers, ensuring that they meet required standards of care and safety.
In a bid to improve efficiency and save time, Dr. Singh stated that meetings with officials will be conducted online through video conferencing. He stressed that the IT department would be roped in to ensure the necessary arrangements are made. “I will be conducting meetings online to avoid wasting time,” he added.
