News Desk : “When you are playing the role of a God, it becomes very important to resemble and match up to the expectations set by the audience”
1) What kind of preparations did you do for your role? As you would be playing various avatars how will you try to make every Avatar different from each other?
In the past also I have done mythological shows, therefore I was familiar with the genre. But even in mythology, different roles are different, the acting, costumes all vary greatly and thus, this is a new challenge for me and I am working on it. I will be essaying the role of Lakshmi as well as Sumati, who is considered an example of a ‘pativrata’ in Indian mythology.
2) What has been stored in for the audience?
In the show Vighnaharta Ganesh, I will be seen in the role of Lakshmi and I will be essaying various avatars of Lakshmi also. So I am both happy and excited and there is a lot in store for the audience. Vighnaharta Ganesh has been known for the depiction of mythological stories of various avatars of Gods and Goddesses and audiences have loved it. I am sure they will enjoy my part too.
3) Do you think playing a mythological character brings with it a huge responsibility in a country like ours? How is it any different from playing any other character?
Yes definitely, it is a huge responsibility because there is a large section who believes on Hindu Gods. From our childhood we imagine a picture of them and hear various stories about them from varied sources. So when you are playing the role of a God, it becomes very important to resemble and match up to the expectations set by the audience. Whether it be your costume, you makeup or your acting, one needs to convince them.
Playing a mythological character is different from other characters as it comes with a dialect, there is a different language style. There are heavy costumes and jewelries that need to be carried. The make-ups pattern is also generally quite different.
4) The shooting has begun amidst the new normal. There have also been active cases on show sets. In a scenario like this, what precautions will u be taking on a personal front while on the shoots.
I am taking all necessary precautions and care to avoid any mishap. I always wear a mask even on set and only remove it when I have to shoot. I also have ample amounts of Kadha and always drink hot water. I am trying to maintain a proper intake of all vitamins and I am also taking Vitamin C and Multivitamin supplements. I also use disinfectants on public use surfaces like door handle areas and disinfect my clothes, jewellery and make-up before wearing them.
5) What precautions are being taken on the sets of Vighnaharta Ganesh?
The production has been mindful in taking all necessary precautions and I really appreciate it. There are temperature checks, oxygen monitoring and Aarogya Setu status checks whenever we enter the make gate. All these are also regularly checked during the shoot time. Also, a person from the channel is also present to keep the track of the monitoring and to warn people to be cautious. Our costume and make-up assistants always wear a PPE kit and have hand gloves to avoid direct contact. Also, the set has been shifted to Aamgaon which is a green zone so that we feel safe.
Watch Vighnaharta Ganesh every Monday to Friday, 7:30 PM only on Sony Entertainment Television.
